Kokoro Dance

Life (Working Title)

New work, premiering in 2013

Life will be a new collaboration between Kokoro Dance, composer Lee Pui Ming and artist Kai Chan. Lee Pui Ming is an astoundingly talented pianist and composer with whom we have previously collaborated in Sheepman Dreams (2003), a full-evening work inspired by the Haruki Murakami novel Dance, Dance, Dance. We also performed with Pui Ming, Inuk throat singer Tanya Tagaq, cellist Cris Derksen, guitarist Tony Wilson, percussionist Dylan van der Scyff, and filmmaker Clancy Dennehy in Two Night Stand at the 2009 Vancouver International Dance Festival.

Lee Pui Ming, Kai Chan, and Kokoro Dance straddle East and West in merging influences from Asian and European cultures to evolve a uniquely Canadian expression of living life as artists. This new work furthers our interest in developing dynamic conversations with artists from other disciplines.
