Kokoro Dance tours to Poland

Barbara Bourget and Jay Hirabayashi traveled to Poland in July to perform ( ) and to teach. Three performances were presented during the XII Annual International Contemporary Dance Conference and Performance Festival in Bytom, Poland. The first performance on July 6, 2005 took place at the Roundhouse ul. BrzeziÅ"ska alternative stage in an abandoned railway repair facility. The second performance on July 7, 2005 took place in a coal mine in Zabrze, a neighbouring city to Bytom. The third performance took place on the stage of the Silesian Dance Theatr in Bytom. Jay taught a master classes in butoh dance on July 9th.

Kokoro Dance performed ( ) at the Vancouver Art Gallery Friday, July 22, 2005 at 8 PM

Barbara Bourget and Jay Hirabayashi performed ( ) in front of an exhibition of Rodin statues on July 22nd at the Vancouver Art Gallery. The performance was part of the inaugural FUSE event, a music•art•performance party that is held on the third Friday of every month, and drew a crowd of an estimated 1,000 people.

Kokoro Dance performed at the Powell Street Festival Saturday, July 30, 2005 at 5:30 PM

Kokoro Dance performed a 30 minute site-specific work at Oppenheimer Park at the Powell Street Festival. Barbara Bourget, Jay Hirabayashi, Ronya Lake, Carolyn Chan, George Rosenberg, Susan Krakauer, Stephanie Parent, Robert Seaton, Leslie Pomeroy, and Mary-Anne Chu took part in the performance.

Hosted by Canadian contemporary dance legend Robert Desrosiers, the program profiles these avant-garde and provocative artists in their own environments and cultures. This episode featured founders Jay Hirabayashi and Barbara Bourget of Kokoro Dance, which blends Asian esthetics and Western sensibilities with incredible results.

Kokoro Dance’s 10th Annual Wreck Beach Butoh performances took place Saturday , August 20 at 12 PM and Sunday, August 21 at 12:45 PM

Kokoro Dance presented a new version of its Wreck Beach Butoh performances with twenty-three nude dancers.

Wreck Beach Butoh is a water and sand dance experience with music and costumes by Mother Nature. This year’s performers were Matthew Popoff, Leslie Pomeroy, Espirito Santo Mauricio, Barbara (Txi Whizz) Hannah, Holly Holt, Robert Seaton, George Rosenberg, Susan Krakauer, Kristine Richmond, Sheri Brown, Diane Farnsworth, Ronya Lake, Andrea Legg, Carolyn Chan, Stephanie Parent, Mary Anne Chu, Tiffany Easton, April Russel, Katy Harris-McLeod, Celeste Lyon, Barbara Bourget, and Jay Hirabayashi.

Kokoro Dance tours to Lithuania October 5 – 11, 2005

Barbara Bourget and Jay Hirabayashi traveled to Lithuania from October 5 – 11, 2005 with lighting designer Gerald King to perform ( ), a seventy-one minute duet and to teach. Barbara and Jay performed in Kaunas on October 7th at the Vytautas Magnus University Great Hall at midnight and at the National Drama Theatre Small Hall in Vilnius at 6 PM on October 10th before sold-out audiences who gave standing ovations. The performances were presented during the 15th International Festival of Modern Dance produced by Aura Dance Theatre. Barbara and Jay taught at master class at the Aura Dance Theatre studio in Kaunas on October 8th.

Kokoro Dance performed Zero to the Power November 15, 2005

Kokoro Dance gave a preview performance of Zero to the Power, the first section of Sunyata, at the Roundhouse Community Centre.

Kokoro Dance performed Sunyata at the 2006 Vancouver International Dance Festival

Kokoro Dance gave five performances of Sunyata from March 21-25, 2006 at the Roundhouse Community Centre with dancers Jay Hirabayashi, Barbara Bourget, Holly Holt, Carolyn Chan, Jennifer McKinley, Deanna Peters, Matthew Romantini and Chris Hannon.
