Aeon (1990)

Choreography: Barbara Bourget and Jay Hirabayashi

A sixty minute collaboration with Barbara Bourget, Ross Barrett (saxophone, flute, synthesizers) and Uzume Taiko (John Greenaway, Eileen Kage and Leslie Komori) with Robert J. Rosen’s music also on tape. Two butoh figures chart out a relationship in time, space and sound in a choreographic structure that allows room for original movement. Lighting by Gerald King. Costumes by Tsuneko Kokubo. Part of this dance takes place on amplified wood-slatted tables designed by Duncan Wilson that Barbara Bourget and Jay Hirabayashi use as percussive instruments. This piece later became the second section of Sunyata.
